Vermont Fire Fighters help in the south

         Six members of the Professional Fire Fighters of Vermont (PFFV), including the President of the PFFV, are headed south to assist the victims of Hurricane Katrina. These six members are from the South Burlington Fire Department, The Hartford Fire Department and the Barre City Fire Department. They will be working in two person teams for FEMA as Community Relations Officers and will receive training in Atlanta, Georgia for up to four days. Then they will be assigned to areas through out the Gulf Coast to aid the victims of this terrible disaster.

          FEMA made the decision to hire Fire Fighters because they have received back round checks are in good physical condition and have a good training foundation in emergency services and responding to assist citizens. They are expected to be in the Gulf Coast Region for up to 30 days.

          The Professional Fire Fighters of Vermont is a state wide organization that represents paid professional union fire fighters, emergency medical technicians and paramedics in Vermont. This consists of 10 IAFF Locals in Vermont from Brattleboro, Burlington, South Burlington, Hartford, St. Johnsbury, Rutland City, Montpelier, Barre City, Barre Town EMT’s and Springfield, Vermont. The PFFV is a state affiliate of the International Association of Fire Fighters.
