As many of you are this summer has been a very busy and successful one for the PFFV. We have been busy with politics, addressing issues for the PFFV and our members and with our fundraiser. This is an update of our State Association.
Fundraiser:
We have been calling state-wide for our fall concert “1964”, the number one Beatles show in the world. This show will take place on Saturday November 18, 2006 at the Champlain Valley Expo. If we have not been in your local’s area we will be contacting you in the near future.
Beginning last week we started to call in the City of Burlington for the first time since we started fundraising. It has been well received with little to no issues.
Also last week we rolled out a new script with the inclusion of one of our new state-wide fire safety programs. In addition to our successful coloring book program this year we will be distributing reflective safety Halloween trick or treat bags. These bags will have our logo on them and will also have additional fire safety messages printed on both sides. These will go out with the coloring books included inside the bags. Our annual letter to the elementary schools will go out in the next few weeks so that we can reach all of our participants prior to Fire Prevention week.
Politics:
As many of you are aware we have been very active and busy with our endorsed candidates. We are always looking for additional assistance, so tune into pffv.org for updates on events. Senator Welch has been visiting our fire houses across Vermont. This week he will be stopping in Brattleboro and Rutland and next week he is scheduled to meet our members in South Burlington and Burlington. On Thursday we will be speaking at an event for Bernie in Burlington at the High School at 5:30.
Signs:
The PFFV office is full of our signs that show support to our candidates. We have Fire Fighters for Bernie, Peter Welch, and the Governor lined up and ready for distribution. Please send me an e-mail on the quantity and location for drop off or pick up. Steve will be staging signs for southern Vermont at his home. We are looking for our members to get these signs out and show our support. In addition we have stickers for all of our candidates.
Homeland Security:
A quick update - Steve and I attended several meetings with regard to Homeland Security funds and the distribution of these funds to our locals for your needs. The RFP’s that went out for MCI Trailers, Swift Water Rescue and De-Con Trailers enhancements have been evaluated and awarded. If your department applied you should be receiving your award letters soon. Also there has been much development (some good and some not so good) on USAR in Vermont. We will be discussing this at our next PFFV meeting. Awards for the left over 2004 money have been completed and we have had discussion on the 2005 left over money and the latest 2006 money at our state-wide USAR meeting on Tuesday.
The PFFV Newsletter is in the final stages and will be going to the printers very soon. Look for the next issue in your mailbox and enjoy your remaining summer.
For the Executive Board - Matt
